Moving out and left with furniture that has to go? Every eastern suburbs council runs a free bulky-waste collection for items too big for your bins. Here is each council's allowance and booking page, current at the time of writing (July 2026). Check the linked page for your exact dates, as councils update these.
Waverley (Bondi, Bronte, Tamarama, Bondi Junction)
Two booked "Your Call" collections per calendar year, plus one scheduled collection. Book online through the council's clean-up portal or call 9083 8000. Putting items out without a booking counts as illegal dumping and can attract a fine.
Randwick (Coogee, Maroubra, Kingsford, Kensington, Clovelly, Randwick)
The most generous of the three: six free clean-ups a year (one scheduled plus five booked), with a volume cap per collection (check the booking form for the current limit). Randwick has an online booking form, which makes it easy to line up with a move-out date.

Scheduled clean-ups set by your address rather than booked on demand. Use the council's date finder to see when yours falls and how many you get.
What you can and can't put out
Rules vary slightly, but the shape is the same. Usually accepted: furniture, mattresses, whitegoods, small appliances. Usually not: general rubbish, renovation waste, chemicals and paint, anything over the volume cap. Put items out no earlier than the night before and keep the footpath clear.
Before you book, could you get paid instead?
Council pickup is free, which cuts both ways: you pay nothing and you get nothing back. A working couch on the kerb is worth zero to you.
That same furniture is worth real money to someone moving in nearby. Furnishing an empty flat from scratch runs to about $1,150 for just a bed, mattress, sofa, table and chairs at IKEA, before a single lamp. So sort your pile first:
- Still works and looks decent? List it as a bundle and sell the lot.
- Broken or unsellable? That is what council bulk waste is for. Book it.
