Every move leaves furniture behind. Smaller place, already furnished, or the removalist quote climbed with every extra item. Here is an honest look at your options, best to worst.
Option 1: Sell it as a bundle
The stuff you can't take is worth real money to someone moving into an empty flat near you. Instead of selling item by item, list the whole lot as one bundle and sell it to a single buyer. They get a furnished apartment without the shopping. You get one collection, one payment, and you clear the smaller things too. This is the only option here that pays you for the whole pile, not just the couch.
Option 2: Council bulk waste pickup
Every eastern suburbs council runs a free bulky-waste collection. Useful for broken or unsellable things: the stained mattress, the snapped-leg desk. It is free, but be clear on the trade. Option 3: Charity pickup
Vinnies, the Salvos and the Bower collect good-condition furniture, and it goes to someone who needs it. Two catches: they only take clean, resaleable items and say no to a lot, and pickup slots book out fast in the December to February peak. Book early or not at all.
Option 4: The kerb
Last resort. Sometimes a neighbour takes it. Often it sits in the rain, and you risk a fine for illegal dumping if you skipped the booking.
The reframe worth sitting with
Your furniture is worth almost nothing to the kerb. Council pickup is free, which means you get zero for a bed and couch that still work.
That same furniture is worth real money to the person moving into an empty flat a few streets away.
